By Wendy Rice, Psy.D. Licensed Psychologist
Last year, I wrote a blog post about kids and social media that became quite popular. A version of it was even published on Huffington Post. The topic really hit home for many parents, who struggle to understand social media and the part it plays in the lives of their children.
In fact, it was such an important issue that I now feature it as a presentation for parents, teachers and administrators here in the Tampa Bay area and recently, I got a copy of a recording so that I could share it here with you.
Many parents can be frightened by the thought of their kids using social media. It’s time to beat that fear and understand social media for the sake of your children.
Before you click play, I want to say thank you to Tampa Prep for sharing the video they shot with me and to Carolyn Proper for helping me to edit the videos and add slides. And, I also want to thank you in advance for your patience with the quality. I learned a very important lesson with recordings. I walk around too much to just put the camera on a tripod. I definitely need someone to monitor it and follow me around!

Making Strides with Your Child in Mind
It’s not uncommon for a thought of fear to arise when a parent finds out their child or teen is using social media. However, while these fears are understandable, they can often be unfounded. Rice Psychology Group encourages parents to learn the basics of social media for the sake of their children.
