A Summer in Review: Catching Up with Rice Psychology Group

Summer break is over, and we at Rice Psychology Group hope you and your loved ones had a fantastic couple of months. We know for many, summertime consists of family trips, fun in the sun, and late nights in the backyard or the beach. But, while summer fun is exciting, it can also pull you away from your daily routine and cause you to miss out on some things you may regularly keep up with – like our newsletter and super helpful blogs!

If that’s the case, don’t worry! We’ve put together a summertime review of our most essential blogs and made it easy for you to catch up on what you may have missed.

For the Graduate

If the summer of 2021 was a period of freedom and celebration as a recent high school or college graduate, then congratulations! But whether you’re prepping for your first year in college or heading into the “real world,” we suggest reviewing a helpful blog that can prepare you for life outside of school.

For Those Struggling

The second blog we’d like for you to look at is by our own Dr. Anna Schrack. It discusses how the “illusion” of control during the pandemic has affected her and what it might have done to you. It also covers a few ways in which we can reconnect with those that we love and care for most during the pandemic. Some of these methods might even be used to mitigate the stress, sadness, and/or anxiety that you’re going through. Above all, we suggest having a talk with us if your emotions are becoming a bit too much to handle.

For Those Considering Commercialized Online Therapy

COVID-19 forced most of us to rely on the digital world to stay connected with each other. Zoom, FaceTime, and Microsoft Teams changed the way we worked and went to school. Online shopping reached new heights. And even sessions with our licensed psychologists and therapists in Tampa went virtual thanks to telehealth. We also saw interest increase in companies that specialized in commercialized online therapy like Talkspace and BetterHelp.

While the convenience of commercialized therapy seemed like a logical addition to the digital world, we did some investigating and found that it’s all a little too good to be true. So, if you’re considering commercialized therapy, read our blog on the topic first before deciding.
